NAVIGATING IN CREATIVE PROCESSES: GEOGRAPHY OF THE BODY

2017

The workshop focuses on the perception / appreciation of the body as territory, not only of inscription, but above all of production and in_corporation of what constitutes the action of being in the world. Inspired by the concept of geographic space, as an extension in which relations of all kinds - social, political, environmental, economic, etc. - materialize. - the proposed activities have a provocative meaning, seeking in the acceptance of risk to trigger a kind of "internal journey". The body-territory is summoned to a less domesticated experimentation of everyday existence as a way of triggering / producing creative processes. [This proposal is an achievement in partnership with Nau Interativa]

CRISTINA FILIPE: THE BODY AS PLATFORM

2010

Organization of a Workshop with Portuguese artist-jeweler Cristina Filipe.

The workshop starts from the assumption of taking the body as language and Instrument. It is about considering a body that is simultaneously: project, material, performer. Thus the objective is to start from the awareness of the (own) body as an instrument and work support. The body will serve as a platform for experimentation and for contact with various forms of interpretation and aspects a jewel can take. In this sense, the conception of the ornament will pass through its understanding as something that is for the body, which is in the body and is related in some way to it, whether from a conceptual or formal point of view

DIONEA WATT: TRACES AND MEMORIES

2013

Organização de  Workshop com a artista-joalheira brasileira radicada na Inglaterra, Dionea Rocha-Watt.

The purpose of the workshop is to examine the relationships between loss, absence and materiality, exploring relationships between senses, objects, matter and the affective memory they provoke. By means of exercises centered on tracing processes or leaving traces or residues (paint, charcoal, wax, photography, plaster, etc.), the students found the best way to present the result of that experience in the desired language, thus working in border regions. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of questioning, as well as experimentation with materials as a way of valuing the sensitive aspect of the process and the work. Instead of concentrating on the elaboration of pieces that fit pre-defined concepts or themes, the methodology adopted is oriented so that the concept of the work emerges from the process, as a gesture emerges from the body; will be impregnated in the work and not revealed in advance.
